- Names that were considered for the titular robot during pre-production of the series: Klystron, Voltor, and Volton. It was the show's logo designer, Bill England, who came up with the final name of Voltron.

- Krik was originally named Kirk.
- Rocky was apparently originally going to be named Moose.
- The space explorers were originally called space pioneers.
- While the Garrison officers who speak during Galaxy Garrison conference room scenes are not named throughout the series, they are referred to in the scripts by their ranks/positions, which are that of Diplomat, Economist, Scientist, General, Engineer, Industrialist, and Professor.
